A great culinary adventure begins with the best ingredients, but that view of the water, which makes it Rhode Island.
Casual summer meals are wonderful in the clam shacks. Here you can have your lobster rolls, fried clams, clam cakes and all kinds of scallops and fish dishes.
Many in RI also offer choices with an Italian flavor like linguini and clams and the state appetizer, calamari.
If you’re into squid, here’s where you can get great versions of RI State’s official appetizer. The 10 companies with 12 locations are open for take-out meals and most for meals on site or al fresco by reservation.

Must-see restaurants at RI this summer
One of the fun things about RI is that there’s always a new restaurant opening. There were just a bunch of new places to eat and drink and you can read all about them.
Daylight saving time always generates new ideas and events, especially in Newport. Here are some ideas for a special experience.
Call it eating al fresco. Call It Outdoors – No matter how you spin it, in Rhode Island the options are endless
Want to have dinner with your baby dog? It was in July 2016 that the law entitled “Outdoor dining – Dogs allowed” was promulgated. He said a restaurant with an outdoor dining area may allow customers’ dogs to accompany them. The human is responsible for his dog’s behavior, of course, and he may be asked to keep the dog on a leash.
A good variety of restaurants have embraced the concept, from cafes to oyster bars to brasseries. Here are some of our favorite picks.
It’s nice to see these ‘parklets’ popping up in Providence, sprawling outside the dining rooms with art, even though they’re the result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the state’s “Take It Outside” initiative, The Steel Yard, a nonprofit industrial art center on Sims Street in Providence, has partnered with the Department of Arts, Culture and city tourism. With grants from Rhode Island Commerce, The Steel Yard delivers original artwork installations to restaurants.
Parklets will be present in Providence restaurants, including Murphy’s, Paris Bistro, Shop Breakfast Bar, Jet Set Lounge and Aqua Lounge. The African Alliance will have one that will travel to its farmers’ markets, as will the Sofia Academy. The last to request it are Kin Soul Food and Food Truck Fridays at Roger Williams Park.
You see igloos outside of local restaurants, including Chaska in Cranston, Bluewater Bar & Grill in Barrington, and Malt in Newport. They were also delivered to daycares, a pantry and a construction company.
Ocean State Shields is a small Rhode Island business that launched into the igloo world in April. They have made fire code compliance a priority, said Côté, the company’s CEO.
