Gasoline and diesel rates today in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow: Gasoline and diesel prices remained unchanged on August 29, keeping costs stable for more than three months now. The latest nationwide price change came on May 21, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a cut in excise duty on petrol of Rs 8 per liter and Rs 6 per liter on diesel . Since then, Maharashtra is the only state to have cut rates. The Maharashtra government had announced a cut in Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 5 per liter and Rs 3 per liter for diesel early last month. The reduction in VAT will likely cost the Maharashtra treasury Rs 6,000 crore on an annual basis.
The price of petrol in Delhi today stands at Rs 96.72 per liter from Rs 105.41 per liter before the excise duty reduction, while diesel will cost Rs 89.62 per liter from Rs 96.67. In Mumbai, a liter of petrol now costs Rs 106.31 from Rs 111.35 earlier while diesel is selling at Rs 94.27 from Rs 97.28 per liter earlier. Public sector CMOs including Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) revise fuel prices daily based on international benchmark prices and exchange rates. Any changes to gasoline and diesel prices are implemented from 6 a.m. daily. Gasoline and diesel retail prices differ from state to state due to local taxes such as VAT or freight charges.

Oil prices were mixed on Monday as investors balanced expectations that OPEC will cut output to support prices against concerns that Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the United States will face to slow growth “for a while”. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures CLc1 rose 2 cents to $93.08 a barrel at 0003 GMT, adding to Friday’s gain. Brent crude LCOc1 futures were down 27 cents, or 0.3%, at $100.72 a barrel, paring gains from the previous session.
