Juventus are still looking for Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes and have recently offered a new contact for him, according to a report.

Gabriel joined Arsenal from French side Lille in September 2020. The Gunners paid around £23.1m for him, according to BBC Sports.

The centre-back made 32 appearances in his first season at the Emirates, scoring three goals and one assist. He became a bigger member of the team last season, appearing in 38 games and scoring five times.

Gabriel has formed a good defensive partnership with Ben White, following the Englishman’s £50million move from Brighton last summer.

The two defenders are both 24 years old, which means Arsenal could theoretically rely on them for years to come.

However, Juventus are aiming to take Gabriel to Serie A. They see the uncapped Brazilian as a good replacement for Giorgio Chiellini, while Matthijs de Ligt could leave Turin as well.

In May, it was reported that Juve were growing confident of signing him. Arsenal have delayed their attempts so far, however. And the gunners recently put a £33.8m price tag on his head.

But Juve show no signs of stopping their pursuit. According sports witnesswho quote the Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, they reconnected with Arsenal on Sunday.

Juventus want reduction on Gabriel Magalhaes – report

The Italian side are confident of getting a discount from Arsenal’s £33.8million asking price. Therefore, discussions will likely have focused on Gabriel’s fees.

The report does not reveal what Arsenal think of the sale of the centre-half. But given his importance to Arteta last season, they are unlikely to sanction an exit.

The Gunners are hoping to bring Lisandro Martinez from Ajax to North London. However, his signing would serve to add to Arteta’s centre-back options, rather than replacing Gabriel.

There are alternative defenders on Juve’s radar, so Arsenal are hoping one of them will be signed.

Pedulla claims Max Allegri’s side are watching Monaco star Benoit Badiashile and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic. They also look up to Gleison Bremer, although he looks set to join Inter Milan.

Arsenal shouldn’t consider Gabriel’s exit no matter how hard Juve push. He’s part of a strong defensive partnership and breaking that would come with huge risks.

Moreover, if Gabriel has another peak season in the Premier League – and the Europa League – then his value will only increase.

Meanwhile, Arsenal outcast Lucas Torreira has talked openly about a possible way out.
