In her bestseller Tout Le Monde Savait published in May, Valérie Bacot, 40, admitted having shot Daniel Polette in self-defense in 2016. She faces a life sentence for murder.

“It is with this same weapon, in another forest one day and so that he does not kill us that I killed him”, wrote Bacot.

Bacot said Polette, 25 years older than her, first raped her when she was 12. At the time, Polette was her mother’s boyfriend, but Bacot calls him her stepfather in the book.

In 1996, Polette was convicted of rape of a minor and spent two and a half years in prison, Bacot’s lawyer Nathalie Tomasini told CNN.

Bacot wrote in his book that after Polette’s release he began to abuse her again and that she got pregnant at the age of 17.

“One morning in the dining room, he starts screaming because I didn’t put the baby’s toys away properly. He turns to me and slaps me hard without warning,” Bacot wrote, remembering one. of the countless times she has been hit by Polette.

Over the course of 18 years, Bacot and Polette had four children together, two of whom helped bury their father’s body after Bacot shot him dead. In 2019, they each received a 6-month suspended prison sentence for concealing a human corpse, Bacot’s lawyer said.

During the investigation, the children spoke of the relentless abuse their mother suffered from Polette. According to court documents, the court-appointed psychiatrist said Bacot was “clearly under Polette’s control”.

Bacot told police she had been repeatedly beaten by Polette and forced her into prostitution.

On several occasions, Polette is said to have told Bacot that if she left him, he would kill her and their children.

“Don’t worry: one day you will leave here,” Polette said when he uttered such a threat, as Bacot recalled in his book.

“But it will be the feet first, and the children too!”

A scourge that will survive Covid-19

The prosecutor said Polette’s murder was premeditated; Bacot’s lawyers deny this.

A petition not to jail Bacot was launched online by lawyers in January, which has so far received more than 580,000 signatures.

The trial is expected to last five days.

Bacot’s case is reminiscent of Jacqueline Sauvage, a French woman who was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of shooting her husband three times in the back with a shotgun in 2012 – just a day later that their son hanged himself. After serving three years behind bars, Sauvage was released from prison in 2016 when then-president François Hollande granted him a pardon.

NGOs are sounding the alarm on feminicides in France. This year alone, 43 women have lost their lives at the hands of their partner or their husband, according to the defense group “Feminicides by companion or ex”, against 90 women in 2020, according to the French Minister of Justice Eric Dupond- Moretti. The French Ministry of the Interior recorded 146 feminicides in 2019.

A French tourist who stole from Nelson stores had “had a hard time” at the end of her trip.

Sophie Nathalie Fazio, 32, pleaded three counts of shoplifting on Monday in Nelson District Court.

According to the police summary of facts, Fazio visited Miter 10 on June 7. She picked up some household items and took them to the toilet “… where she transferred the items to her bag, removing some of the wrapping in the process.”

Then she left the store without paying for the items, which were valued at $ 146.

During his visits to New World on June 10 and 18, Fazio hid items in a bag in his cart. She covered it with another bag. At the checkout, she paid for a few items, but not those hidden in the cart.

The value of the items she picked up from the supermarket was $ 188.

When the police spoke to her, Fazio said she was in a bad situation and worried about the money.

Fazio’s attorney, Hennessey, said the tourist regretted her actions and wanted to apologize.

Originally from France, she had traveled to New Zealand for 18 months.

“She’s had a hard time and has no money,” Hennessey said.

Fazio planned to leave the country when his visa expired on June 30, he said.

Judge Garry Barkle found her guilty on all three counts and ordered her to immediately pay $ 335 in compensation.

Barkle ordered Fazio to seek his sentence if he is called in the next three months.

“But you’ll be well and truly gone by then.”

Real Madrid consider Jules Kounde to replace Sergio Ramos https://frankrijkmenu.com/real-madrid-consider-jules-kounde-to-replace-sergio-ramos/ https://frankrijkmenu.com/real-madrid-consider-jules-kounde-to-replace-sergio-ramos/#respond Sun, 20 Jun 2021 00:14:42 +0000 https://frankrijkmenu.com/real-madrid-consider-jules-kounde-to-replace-sergio-ramos/

Amid all the action at Euro and Copa America, the summer transfer window has opened for some leagues with Europe’s biggest clubs looking to make a splash in the transfer market. Check out the latest gossip below, and check out all the official offers here.

TOP STORY: Madrid consider Kounde to replace Ramos

Real Madrid explore options to replace Sergio Ramos, consider French defender Jules Koundé be the perfect candidate, according to Marca.

Kounde has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including Manchester United, and Madrid are the latest to consider a move for his defensive skills.

However, the 22-year-old center-back has a € 80million buyout clause, which could be too much for Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Madrid are currently unable to afford the required premium fees and therefore have to replace Ramos with a limited budget.

The other concern is whether Kounde has the same leadership qualities as Ramos to help bring out the best in Raphael Varane and Eder Militao.

Speaking of Varane, his contract expires next year, and Spanish media say Madrid could allow him to leave this summer and release funds to sign Kounde.

Employers in Koundé, Seville, have shown little willingness to agree to anything other than its buyout clause.

– Manchester United are increasingly concerned that Paul pogba will leave the club for nothing next summer, reports the Mirror. They believe the France international is ready to cancel his contract and leave Old Trafford as a free agent. United have been forced to trigger a 12-month contract extension on their existing contract, but they are now desperate to persuade the £ 89million-valued midfielder to sign a new contract.

– New Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti could turn to his former club Everton in an attempt to bring in the striker Dominique Calvert-Lewin at the Bernabeu, reports the Sun. Ancelotti has described the 24-year-old forward as “the complete player”, and the Italian believes he can persuade the Toffees to let him go for £ 50million. Everton are under increasing financial pressure and owner Farhad Moshiri could be tempted to let the England international leave Goodison Park.

– Liverpool look set to beat Bayer Leverkusen for Ghanaian prodigy signing Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, according to an interview with the current club president of the player at Ghana football. In the interview, Steadfast FC president Haruna Iddisu says a deal has been reached between the two sides, despite Leverkusen having every chance of winning the 17-year-old’s signing race. Issahaku has scored eight goals in 13 games for his club, and he played for Ghana’s Under-20s at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

– Real Madrid hope to persuade Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Luka Jovic in order to free up essential funds to reach the main target Kylian Mbappé, reports AS. Jovic failed to settle in Madrid but Los Blancos remain confident they will receive acceptable offers for the Serbian international. Jovic joined Madrid for € 60million when he moved to the Spanish capital in 2019, but the club would be happy to get € 40million back for the 23-year-old. Frankfurt has expressed interest in Jovic, but in order to make an offer they must first find a new home for Andre Silva.

– On André Silva, Barcelona are looking to land a top-level center-forward to join the club alongside Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay, and sport thinks the 25-year-old Portuguese striker is the last name on their list. Silva was thought to be on Barca’s radar a few seasons ago when he was at Sevilla, but his 28 goals in 32 games last season convinced the Catalan club that now is the time to take a step. Frankfurt could be tempted to accept a € 35million offer, and agent Jorge Mendes is reportedly working on the deal. Manchester City and Atletico Madrid are also interested.

– Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic appear to be on their way back to Italy, with Juve as a likely destination, according to Corriere dello Sport. Juventus have been in contact to re-sign the Bosnian on a two-year loan deal, and the two clubs are now reportedly discussing his salary. Pjanic is out of sight under Koeman at Camp Nou, while Juve coach Max Allegri sees him as a potential replacement for Aaron ramsey and Adrien rabiot.

the Alfa romeo The drivers aim to qualify for Q3 of the French Grand Prix after an encouraging first day at Paul Ricard.

Throughout 2020 the Italian team have been one of the laggards on the grid and coming out of Q1 on a race weekend has been seen as a success.

In 2021 however, they looked much stronger, more often being closer to the midfielder than Haas and finishing in the top 10 in two of the first six races.

They haven’t done it on a Saturday yet, but after a decent Friday at Paul Ricard where they placed both cars in the top 13 in both sessions, the goal is to change that.

In fact, Kimi raikkonen, who finished P9 in FP2, thinks he could have done even better.

“It wasn’t too bad there,” he said.

“I even have the impression that I could have been a few places higher with a better lap. The hope, of course, is that we can be somewhere in this region, in the top ten, when we get into qualifying.

“As always, we can try to find something more tonight with the engineers and optimize the performance of the car, but it’s not a bad start.”

The Finn’s teammate Antonio Giovinazzi failed to make it into the top 10 himself but didn’t have a bad day, finishing the sessions in P12 and P11.

Like Raikkonen, the Italian was also not entirely happy with how things turned out, making him optimistic about his chances of entering the top 10 in the shootout on Saturday.

“It was a good start to the weekend and we are confident heading into qualifying,” he said.

“The conditions there were not easy, with a lot of wind and poor grip, but that’s also what we can expect for tomorrow.

“Being just outside the top when I’m still not 100% happy with the car means we can be in the fight for Q3 if we find an improvement tonight. It’s our job and if we do a better job than our rivals we can have a good Saturday.

Who is their key player?

The French will look to complete the 2018 World Cup triumph and make up for the disappointment of the last Euros when they failed in the final hurdle at home against a stubborn Portugal.

Key to those hopes is Mbappe, 22, the PSG striker who shone in the last World Cup when he was still a teenager.

Mbappe averages nearly one goal per game for his club and has been compared to Thierry Henry by no less authority than Arsene Wenger.

Will the striker be able to win two victories in his first two international tournaments? You wouldn’t bet against it.

What is the full team?

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Marseille), Mike Maignan (Lille)

Defenders: Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich), Leo Dubois (Lyon), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid), Presnel Kimpembe (Paris Saint-Germain), Lucas Hernandez (Bayern Munich), Lucas Digne (Everton), Clement Lenglet (Barcelona), Kurt Zouma (Chelsea)

France Arrests “Senior” Islamic State Fighter in Mali | Voice of America https://frankrijkmenu.com/france-arrests-senior-islamic-state-fighter-in-mali-voice-of-america/ https://frankrijkmenu.com/france-arrests-senior-islamic-state-fighter-in-mali-voice-of-america/#respond Thu, 17 Jun 2021 00:47:51 +0000 https://frankrijkmenu.com/france-arrests-senior-islamic-state-fighter-in-mali-voice-of-america/

PARIS – French forces in Mali have captured a man they describe as a “high-ranking fighter of the Islamic State of the Great Sahara” (EIGS), the French army said on Wednesday.

Dadi Ould Chouaib, also known as Abu Dardar, was arrested on June 11 in the “three border” region between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, a site of frequent attacks by extremist groups, said the army in a press release.

He carried “an automatic weapon, a night vision telescope, a combat vest, a telephone and a radio”, but surrendered without resistance.

It was located during a helicopter sweep as part of a joint mission between the troops of the French Operation Barkhane and the Nigerien forces.

The Nigerien army said in a statement Wednesday evening that the joint operation, launched on June 8, led Tuesday to a clash with “armed terrorists” which left a Nigerien dead and “12 terrorists neutralized”.

The term “neutralized” means “killed” in West African military contexts.

Dardar was previously a member of the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) linked to al-Qaeda, many of whose fighters had joined EIGS.

Arrested for the first time in 2014, he was handed over to the Malian authorities.

But he was one of some 200 prisoners released in October 2020 in exchange for four hostages, including French humanitarian aid Sophie Petronin.

Dardar is believed to have been one of the gunmen who mutilated three people at a market in Tin Hama, northern Mali, on May 2, cutting off their hands and feet, according to local sources.

According to the United Nations mission in Mali, MINUSMA, the gunmen were suspected of belonging to EIGS.

Dardar’s arrest will be good news for France, after President Emmanuel Macron pledged in February to step up efforts to “behead” extremist groups in the Sahel region.

FILE – French President Emmanuel Macron visits French troops in the African Sahel region in Gao, northern Mali, on May 19, 2017.

France, a former colonial power in the three “three-border” countries, is pursuing a strategy aimed at targeting the leaders of militant groups.

Its military presence in the semi-arid Sahel, Operation Barkhane, recently called for the elimination of a high-ranking fighter from the al-Qaeda group in the Islamic Maghreb, an adversary of the EIGS in the region.

Baye Ag Bakabo is responsible for the kidnapping and death of two French RFI journalists, Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, killed in northern Mali in 2013.

Macron recently announced that France would end its 5,100-man Barkhane force, which has been fighting extremist groups in the Sahel for eight years.

He said earlier this month that he viewed France’s future presence as part of the so-called Takuba international intervention force in the Sahel, in which “hundreds” of French soldiers would form the “backbone. “.

This would mean the closure of French bases and the use of special forces that would focus on counterterrorism operations and military training, he said.

But Macron’s plans have fueled fears that parts of the Sahel, particularly northern Mali, could fall completely into the hands of extremist groups, with local authorities appearing unable to regain their grip on the region.

French mix of 4×4 and Ferrari gives Deschamps options for all terrains https://frankrijkmenu.com/french-mix-of-4x4-and-ferrari-gives-deschamps-options-for-all-terrains/ https://frankrijkmenu.com/french-mix-of-4x4-and-ferrari-gives-deschamps-options-for-all-terrains/#respond Wed, 16 Jun 2021 01:30:00 +0000 https://frankrijkmenu.com/french-mix-of-4x4-and-ferrari-gives-deschamps-options-for-all-terrains/

One of the underrated joys at the start of a tournament is circling around the teams to see how good everyone is, but the best have probably been saved until last.

France is not underestimated. This victory over Germany showed precisely why most people predicted rather boringly that they would be champions.

They can even make the Euro 2020 finals rather boring – or at least an anti-climax – because there is at least the threat that they could win it at a gallop.

The world champions certainly seemed to have a few more gears to jump through to secure a resounding victory over another supposedly top-tier team.

The reality is that France are looking a few levels above Germany – and it could have been a few more goals if Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema hadn’t been so enthusiastic – and at least a step or two ahead of the Portugal, England and Italy.

Benzema’s comeback didn’t even have to do much. It’s something else that they can save for later when it’s needed.

This does not necessarily mean that the French themselves are boring. They offer moments of beauty and euphoria, especially through the divine passes of Paul Pogba and the rhythm of Mbappé.

This attack in full counterattack is joyful. It was close to a football tragedy, Mbappe strayed offside for his own finish as everyone watching surely made the same purring sound of appreciation when he walked in.

France seems to have evolved to an attack level, as of 2018. There is a deeper level of integration, and perhaps a greater sense of self-expression. Pogba was weaving his right foot like a brush.

It all still comes from the same basic block, however. They are so solid in the center. It feels like there is just too much to overcome for any opposition, which is why it was so surprising that Germany hadn’t gone further sooner.

They only add to Jogi Loew’s questions, but they’re not the only team fighting for solutions against France.

Raphael Varane and Presnel Kimpembe have met almost everything that is happening to them with authority. If they didn’t, Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez were ready to back down.

If there was a loophole somehow emerging after that, N’Golo Kante – of course – was there to fill it.

Is there a player in world football who seems such a guarantee of success as the Chelsea midfielder. Having him on your team is having a team a few levels better than it would be. It makes a team almost impervious.

And that’s going to be a problem for everyone. France is so hard to hit, but will always create just enough chances to hurt you, with more than enough quality to take them. Pogba’s majesty and Antoine Griezmann’s conduct here just forced Mats Hummels to make a mistake.

The Germans were unlucky at the rear in terms of grassroots organization, but it looked even worse against the French.

This is another quality of Didier Deschamps’ team. They will make fewer mistakes than you.

It’s going to go even further in the more repressed world of international football, compared to club play.

For anyone still in doubt, you should be able to see now why Gareth Southgate almost wants to make an English version of France. This is what wins modern competitions.

The quality of the French is even more relevant for England at the moment, as they will face whoever finishes second in this group in the likelihood of winning their group.

It used to be that it didn’t matter Germany, France or Portugal that Southgate’s side would get in the round of 16, and that they would have to face them sooner or later. This game proved to be a mistake.

France is a level above. If you want a long tournament, you really want to avoid them. This might be your best chance against them too, in one game after a month of football.

France seems capable of sailing there though, as they are a combination of an all-terrain four-by-four and a Ferrari.

They have it all. They seem ready to win it all again.

We have now seen all the teams at Euro 2020. We have not seen anyone as good as France.

The photo on Reddit boxes of baguettes, stacked inside Costco in France, did not conform to some Redditors’ stereotypes of what buying baked goods in that country should look like. “I imagined that Parisians are so picky with baguettes, and they refuse to eat anything other than the ones cooked by their favorite baker, so it’s interesting,” commented a Redditor. They received an answer intended to pierce this myth: “Paris is not as chic or candle as you might think. Lots of ordinary people, working regular jobs, living ordinary lives.

As the Reddit community debated the merits of baguettes at Costco in France, a Redditor stepped in to say that her French husband even found baguettes at American Costco to be decent. “He said he puts them on par with an average French grocery store,” the Redditor said.

Yet another Reddit user was hesitant to ditch the stereotype about French bakery products. “In France, I was very disappointed to see locals buying supermarket baguettes and prepackaged croissants. In one case there was a real bakery next door with much better produce,” they wrote.

The stacks of baguettes at French Costco only prove that everyone loves a bargain. When Atlantic visited the Costco shortly after it opened, a group of teenage footballers were overjoyed to find a 40-pack of Kirkland water for just $ 3.79. One of the teens summed up Costco’s appeal: “It’s cheap! “

Formula 1 2021 heads to round seven in France this weekend, all live on Sky Sports F1; Will “normal” tracks suit Mercedes after the Monaco-Baku nightmare? Red Bull leads world champions by 28 points while Max Verstappen is four points ahead of Lewis Hamilton

Last update: 06/13/21 9:45 p.m.

Mercedes have vowed to turn their Baku anger into a solid result at this weekend’s French GP as the world champions, amid a fierce battle with Red Bull, try to bounce back from their worst two-race streak in nine years.

A captivating Formula 1 2021 campaign – which hosts competitive title duels between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, and Mercedes and Red Bull – intensifies from this weekend’s race at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France, the first of three Grands Prix in as many weeks.

Every practice, qualifying and race is live only on Sky Sports F1.

With so many points to gain, the triple header France-Styria-Austria is crucial for the title hopes and in particular Mercedes, which drags the two championships and has scored a meager seven points in the street races of Monaco and Baku; their weakest run in two races since 2012.

Mercedes failed to keep pace in both events as there were also some big mistakes – from operational and strategic mistakes to Hamilton’s dramatic blockage in Azerbaijan, where the Silver Arrows ended up with zero points.

But Mercedes boss Toto Wolff insisted on F1 Sky: “I have no doubt [we will bounce back].

“It’s a team that is so strong. I’m so angry, and we’re going to transfer the anger into a positive force. We’re warriors and we’re going to come back.”

Wolff added: “It’s going to hurt for a few days, but we’ll bring our best game to the next race.”

Red Bull now lead the constructors’ championship with 28 points thanks to Sergio Perez’s victory in Azerbaijan, while Verstappen is still four points ahead of Hamilton despite a heavy crash from a puncture.

This is because his large shunt led to a red flag and a restart of the race, after which Hamilton made an unusual mistake by flipping a “magic” brake switch and missing the first corner, passing with his lead. potential in 15th place.

“We’re going to rebuild and come back stronger for sure,” said Hamilton, who was cleared of all blame by his team.

Will the “normal” track of the French GP favor Merc over Red Bull?

Mercedes has every reason to be confident in its French GP prospects, having comfortably won both races at the Paul Ricard circuit since returning to the calendar in 2018. It was canceled last year due to the Covid-19.

They also had a faster car than Red Bull in the Portugal-Spain showdown ahead of the final two street circuits, often referred to as “outliers” due to their unique setup compared to traditional F1 venues.

The French GP is certainly a more “normal” track – as Verstappen called it when he admitted his regret that he had not opened up a bigger gap with Hamilton in Baku. His lead would have been 15 points without his unfortunate fall.

Max Verstappen says he had no warning that his tire was going to burst during the Azerbaijani GP.

“Of course Mercedes will be very strong on normal tracks, they had some difficulties on the city circuits but as you could also see in Barcelona they are very fast,” said Verstappen.

“We have to stay on our toes and keep pushing hard because they also have a really good car even if sometimes they don’t say it. They do.

“It’s just a shame. I wanted to widen this gap a little more before coming back to these kinds of tracks.”

The Manchester City center-back has always been one of the best defenders in Europe but turned 27 without ever winning an international selection

“Do you feel Spanish enough to defend the badge, the flag, the anthem?” Aymeric Laporte was asked during his first press conference as a Spanish player.

The Manchester City defender appeared slightly baffled by the hostility of the question coming from his own team’s media.

After all, he is one of the best advocates in the world who has been persuaded to help a country in disarray and far below the quality to which he has grown accustomed over the past two decades.

“It’s a pretty strong question, but I’ll try to answer in the best possible way,” Laporte replied. I will compete at the highest level.

“The objective is the same as Spain’s, to win the competition. I will give everything to win with the national team and that is the important thing.”

Laporte’s move to Spain lasted almost seven years, but it looks like he’s a perfect choice for the player and the nation.

Born in Agen in the Basque region of southwestern France, Laporte won’t be the only Euro 2020 player to represent a country different from where he was born, but his change of allegiance may be the more controversial.

Original Brazilian Jorginho played in Italy’s first victory over Turkey, much-loved midfielder Jamal Musiala played for England at youth level before making his final decision to play for the Germany, while Declan Rice and Jack Grealish also represented the Republic of Ireland before committing to Gareth Southgate’s squad.

There are many other examples, but what’s different about Laporte’s decision is that he left it so late.

Aymeric Laporte

The center-back turned 27 at the end of May and despite Spain’s first interest in 2014, he had always been determined to play for France.

A stint in Spain was first mentioned when he won in the starting lineup at Athletic Club.

Laporte had already played regularly for France at youth level when Blues Under-21 coach Pierre Mankowski said The team that Spain was trying to convince him to represent La Roja.

But Laporte has pledged to play for his country of birth despite having spent six years in Bilbao and never having played a match in Ligue 1.

“I chose France. I am French,” he said in 2018. “I do not have dual nationality. I will not apply for it.”

But a curious mix of bad luck and strained relations with national team boss Didier Deschamps meant that he never won a cap for the Blues.

Perhaps he can now take luck that he did not make a late appearance a replacement who would have tied him to France rather than give him his second chance to play international football with Spain. .

He was first called up in 2016 for the World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and the Netherlands, but remained on the bench for both wins.

A recall in August 2019 was destroyed by a serious knee injury suffered two days later while playing for City and this apparently marked the end of his hopes of joining the Blues.

Deschamps had already systematically ignored Laporte amid rumors of a personality clash, but the French coach was also fortunate to have a plethora of better center-backs.

At Euro 2020, he will have the luxury of choosing between Raphaël Varane, Presnel Kimpembe, Jules Kounde, Clément Lenglet and Kurt Zouma.

The 2018 World Cup winning team also included fit Samuel Umtiti and Adil Rami, while younger players such as Dan-Axel Zagadou, Wesley Fofana and Ibrahima Konate are now pushing for inclusion.

Aymeric Laporte

With Laporte no longer the first choice at City, having fallen behind Ruben Dias and John Stones at the Etihad, it was virtually impossible to see him making his way into Deschamps’ plans for the Euro.

Spain, on the other hand, were desperately short of center-backs, with Sergio Ramos not being in great shape and Gerard Pique having been back for a long time, meaning that the heart had essentially been ripped out of the team that dominated international football there. ten years ago.

Therefore, the Spanish FA took another step for Laporte in early 2021 and the change was finally completed in May.

Laporte knew that there would be French media reaction but he was comfortable with his choice. Indeed, he has always maintained ties with Spain, even after moving to Manchester.

He regularly returned to the country for short breaks before the coronavirus pandemic, while AC Milan striker Brahim Diaz remains an extremely close friend after their time together at City.

He is also on good terms with Chelsea goalkeeper and former Athletic teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga. Even his girlfriend, Sara Botello, is from Bilbao.

There is also the very real prospect that he will return to Spain soon. Despite being City’s most consistent player since joining Athletic in January 2018, he was unable to oust Stones and Dias in the second half of the season, missing out on a starting place in the final. of the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola is said to be happy with his options at center-back level, but Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Spain, need long-term replacements for Ramos and Pique.

The conflicted reception of a sometimes partisan Spanish media can be partly attributed to the shock that no Madrid player has been part of the national team.

Even so, it is surprising that a player who made such an impact in turning City into one of the best club teams in Europe, has come under scrutiny in Spain and France.

However, he always had the quality to shine on the international stage, and now La Roja has given him the chance to finally do so.
